The Unicorn Chronicles: Book Three!

As the unicorns of Luster prepare for an invasion led by their ancient enemy, Beloved, a troubling new clue to the dangers they face is discovered in an ancient scroll. As a result, the queen must send her granddaughter—the human girl Cara Dianna Hunter—to the Valley of the Centaurs, in quest of an ancient story that may hold the key to survival for all of Luster.

At the same time, Cara’s father, Ian Hunter, searches for a way to enter the Rainbow Prison, in order to free Cara’s mother from the strange spell that holds her.

As father and daughter travel their separate paths, each will discover unexpected friendships, face heart-stopping danger, and uncover puzzling new mysteries. But it is Cara who will face the hardest choice of all—a choice that may determine the fate of Luster, and the unicorns she has come to love.

Some Love from SLJ - "brilliant" "essential" "dazzling" "consistently excellent"

The July issue of School Library Journal reviewed four of our titles, and we're bustin' our buttons over what they had to say. Here are some key quotes:

THE GREAT CHRISTMAS KIDNAPPING CAPER :  "The full-cast narration is brilliant, making each character unique and full of life, from the scheming Marvin to the intellectual Raymond and the soulful Fats. A delightful addition to audiobook collections."

SKYBREAKER : The full-cast narration is splend, the major characters are wonderfully portrayed and minor characters are memorable. ... An essential purchase."

FAIREST :  "The performance by Sarah Naughton and a full cast is excellent. Listeners will be dazzled by this entertaining production."

ENNA BURNING : "The consistently excellent voice of the background reader weaves its own spell and ties the cast and plot together."

INTO THE LAND OF THE UNICORNS

For years now we have been getting complaints because we had a recording of  SONG OF THE WANDERER (Book II of "The Unicorn Chronicles") available, but did not offer INTO THE LAND OF THE UNICORNS (Book I) on  audio. The reason was simple: I had actually recorded Book I for WORDS TAKE WING, back when I was working with Listening Library. That company owned the master recording, and never chose to make available on CD.

Well . . .

In the fullness of time, we've regained the rights to the book. And though our schedule was already  fairly well crammed, I managed to talk  Artistic Director Dan Bostick into crashing through a recording of the book this summer. So . . . soon, very soon (as in: before the end of the year!) we will be making INTO THE LAND OF THE UNICORNS  available  as a full cast recording. Actually, we may make it available for download before we release a CD version. In any event, it won't be that long before  the book is once again available in audiobook form!

See, we really do listen to you!

Starred Review for sun moon stars rain

From the moment I read Jan Cheripko's beautiful and shattering sun moon stars rain (the lower case is intentional—the title is from a poem by e e cummings) I believed it would work wonderfully as a full cast recording. The book not only moved me to tears, it literally made me gasp out loud at least twice.

I also knew who I wanted for the two main characters: Spencer Murphy, who narrated our Audie Award winning recording of Kathe Koja's Buddha Boy and Carmen Viviano-Crafts, who has worked with us from the beginning of the company.

Dan Bostick, our Artistic Director, agreed with me, and shepherded the project into final form. Our faith in Jan's book, and what we could do with it, seems to have been confirmed by the lovely starred and boxed review that appeared in the June issue of Booklist. Here is a lengthy quote from Linda Sawyer's review:

" [Spencer] Murphy’s well-placed inflections and tones meticulously convey Danny’s emotions and angst… David Baker is particularly noteworthy in his voicing of good-hearted though flawed Benji Samuels, an alcoholic and friend of Danny's late father. Baker's halting, inebriated speaking style is just right and allows listeners to connect to the character. Carmen Viviano-Crafts’ low-key interpretation of Stephanie is perfect she comes across as very natural, adding sweetness, vulnerability, and emotion to the character, who is trying to reclaim her life. Classical piano music accompanies the story, an appropriate, meaningful touch because Danny is an accomplished pianist. The background music is a haunting, subtle enhancement, never disrupting the flow of the narrative. Sound effects, including gunshots and barking dogs, add to the startling realism. Bruce Coville's thoughtful interview with author Cheripko concludes this highly recommended audio. "
